The grade and GPA calculators on MyGradeGoal produce estimates based on the inputs you provide and standard calculation formulas. These results are for planning purposes only. They may differ from the grades recorded in your school's official system.
Your official grade is determined by your instructor. Your official GPA is calculated by your institution's registrar. These are the only authoritative sources for your academic record.
Why results may differ from your school's records
Several factors can cause a calculator result to differ from what your school or learning management system shows:
- Grade scale differences: Schools use varying grade scales. Some do not award plus or minus grades; others use A+ = 4.3 instead of 4.0. This site uses common defaults that may not match your institution.
- Dropped scores: Some instructors drop the lowest quiz or homework score. Calculators that do not account for this will show a different result.
- Extra credit: Points added outside the normal weighting system will not appear in a standard weighted grade calculation.
- Rounding: Instructors and LMS platforms round grades at different stages of the calculation, which can produce small but meaningful differences.
- Missing or ungraded assignments: Whether missing work counts as a zero or is excluded changes the result significantly.
- Institutional policies: Repeat course policies, transfer credit rules, grade forgiveness programs, and incomplete grade handling all affect official GPA in ways a calculator cannot know.
