Calculate your weighted grade

Add categories like homework, quizzes, tests, and final exam.

Formula

Weighted grade = sum(category grade x category weight) / sum(category weights)

Example: homework at 92% worth 30%, tests at 86% worth 50%, and a final at 90% worth 20% gives a weighted grade of 88.6%.

Examples

Example 1 — Standard three-category syllabus

Homework (30%, grade 92%) · Tests (50%, grade 86%) · Final (20%, grade 90%)

Weighted grade: (92 × 0.30) + (86 × 0.50) + (90 × 0.20) = 27.6 + 43.0 + 18.0 = 88.6%

Example 2 — Strong in tests, weaker in homework

Homework (25%, grade 70%) · Quizzes (25%, grade 82%) · Midterm (25%, grade 91%) · Final (25%, grade 88%)

Weighted grade: (70 + 82 + 91 + 88) × 0.25 = 82.75%

FAQ

What is a weighted grade?

A weighted grade gives each category — such as homework, quizzes, or tests — a percentage of the final course grade. Categories with higher weights have more impact on your overall grade.

Should the weights add up to 100%?

Yes. If your weights do not add to 100%, this calculator normalizes them proportionally and shows a warning. For the most accurate result, enter the exact weights from your syllabus.

Why might this differ from my school portal?

Your portal may drop the lowest score, weight assignments within categories, round differently, or hide grades not yet released. Treat this calculator as an estimate based on the numbers you enter.

What if I have not finished all assignments in a category?

Enter your current average for that category and the weight it carries in the final grade. The result will estimate your grade based on work completed so far. Ungraded assignments are not accounted for.

How do I find my category weights?

Check your course syllabus under the grading section. It will typically list categories like Homework: 30%, Tests: 50%, Final: 20%. If you cannot find it, ask your instructor.

Can I enter a weight that is 0%?

You can, but a zero-weight category does not affect the result. This is useful for tracking unweighted assignments for your own reference.
